Research Manager

Just like our customers, we are growing! Antara Agronomy Services Ltd in St. Jean Baptiste, MB is looking to hire an Agronomist with Research Manager duties in the winter to help grow our existing on-farm research program. The position would be responsible to support our team of agronomists and scouts in the field.

Antara offers advanced agronomy consulting services to growers based in the Red River Valley. Our recommendations are unbiased and backed by our own extensive onfarm research and agronomy benchmarking programs. We work with mid to large sized farming operations that strive to do better. Along with our clients, we believe there is always a better way. Our on-farm research program has completed close to 250 local, field scale, scientifically replicated trials over the last 5 years. Our agronomy benchmarking program leverages the power of peer groups to help everyone learn faster.

About You

  • You possess a valid class 5 driver’s licence, and you love working outdoors.
  • You have a degree or diploma in agriculture form a recognized college or university.

About the Role

As the Agronomy Research Manager at Antara, you will be at the forefront of driving innovative agronomic research projects. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of agronomy, a passion for scientific inquiry, and a proven track record of managing successful research teams. You will oversee and guide our research programs, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to push the boundaries of agricultural knowledge. You will be responsible for the management and day to day operations of the Antara On-Farm Research Network. Our network is comprised of a group of producers in the Red River Valley of Manitoba willing to host field scale replicated trials. You will work closely with producers, commodity groups, industry suppliers and university researchers to co-ordinate, implement, monitor and harvest trials over the course of the growing season. Over winter you will be  responsible for summarizing the collected data and results into reports to present back our clients and various meetings. Throughout the year you will also be working closely with the team, proactively supporting our agronomy consulting service and assisting in marketing activities which involve event planning, copywriting, generating and posting social media content as time allows.

This is a full time, permanent position. Re-location to the Red River Valley is required with an opportunity to be based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba. A competitive salary is offered, and applicant experience will be taken into consideration. A company truck, ATV and all other technical equipment will be provided.

Job Description and Duties

Summer:

  • Collaborate with producers to help with trial implementation, scouting, data collection and trial harvest.
  • Fulfill data collection and reporting requirements for our industry trials as required
  • Monitor trial fields throughout the growing season for pests and assess economic threshold levels to determine if control is warranted.
  • Help coordinate field tours and tailgate sessions for our customers.
  • Assist with the day to day operations of our agronomy consulting services when time allows. This includes field scouting and pesticide recommendations
  • Assist with fall soil sampling needs when time allows.

Winter:

  • Writing and preparing research reports including detailed analysis of trial data.
  • Prepare research summaries for printing in our annual research report.
  • Prepare presentations and summaries of our research projects for delivery at various producer events.
  • Organize our annual research report release event.
  • Help organize other Antara Pro-Series Agronomy Events to educate growers on new farming practices, equipment and input products that might help their farming operations.
  • Work with clients to plan the following season’s research program. This includes meeting with new and prospective clients, preparing trial protocols and finding suitable/willing hosts.

All the time:

  • Develop, manage, and nurture new business accounts to accomplish Antara’s growth goals.
  • Become familiar with customers in your territory and begin developing a trusting work relationship with open communication.
  • Collect relevant customer data and document customer interactions in HubSpot.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of crop production practices and stay informed on the current trends and technologies in agronomy. Think critically to solve problems concerning planting, cultivating, harvesting, and protecting crops from pests, weeds, and harsh climates.
  • Provide valuable insights that lead to solutions that drive higher crop yields.
  • Help with marketing efforts by writing blog posts, posting on social media and assist with the editing of our weekly newsletter
